NXP Semiconductors and Sony had joined hands to invent the NFC technology in the year 2002. Nokia is an active member of the NFC Forum since it was formed in 2004. Philips and Sony are also members of the forum. At the moment, there are a total of 140 companies that are active members of the NFC Forum. A few of the big companies include LG, Huawei, Motorola, HTC, RIM (BlackBerry), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Toshiba, AT&T, Google, Microsoft, PayPal, MasterCard, Intel, and NXP. NFC technology is certain to become a popular method in mobile payment in the near future.
